The European Union banned single-use plastic after 2021 in an effort to alleviate the climate crisis. This means that there are no longer cotton buds, stirrers, polystyrene cups, oxo-degradable plastics and plastic cups, plates, forks and straws in Europe. This change could help avoid $25 billion worth of environmental pollution by 2030. This ban is due to a report done by the World Economic Forum that announced that plastic will outweigh fish in the world’s oceans by 2050 from the huge amounts of plastic waste that despoils beaches and pollutes oceans. By banning these products, Europe will also avoid having plastics that are known to disintegrate into tiny fragments.  Further, by 2025, plastic bottles should be made of 25% recycled materials, and 90% of them should be recycled by 2029.
