On January 9th, it was announced that California’s monarch butterfly population has declined by 86% from 2018. Furthermore, other insect populations are collapsing worldwide threatening a colossal “collapse of nature’s ecosystems” because 40% are declining and 30% are endangered. This decline is due to pesticides, habitat losses and more frequent and severe droughts caused by climate change. Efforts are being made to help slow down extinction rates as insects drastically help the world function.
